Festivals and Fun in Germany

Germany has such a vibrant culture that is active in some way or the other all year round. While in Germany, ensure that you take the time out to be apart of the festivity and have fun, German-style. When most people think about Germany, they think about the beer, the mouth-wateringly sensational flavor of the rich liquid that’s imported and cherished in so many countries. While the beer really is exceptional, that’s not all there is to appreciate in Germany. No matter what the season or weather, there’s something going on that will keep you busy having a great time, “prosting” and singing along to Schlager.

During Christmas time, keep an eye out for the Christmas markets. In fact, you could probably see them walking backwards with one eye closed and smell them from ten miles away. The cities are usually extravagantly decorated with lit up wooden stalls selling roasted nuts, Schmalzkuchen, Bratwurst, Lebkuchen and so much more. And for the eye catching stalls, you’ll be amazed by the handcrafted jewelery, souvenirs, engraved wooden items, homemade candles, salt crystals, gem stones and a variety of other tempting products that are hard not to buy.

Oktoberfest is of course a very big deal. Originated in Bavaria, Oktoberfest has crept its way into cities, big and small. So if you’re living a considerable distance away from Munich, you’ll still be able to join in on the excitement. Leave your car keys at home because, you’ll be tempted to dry all the wonderful beers the have in store. If you’re bringing the kids a long, they too will have a good time going on rides and munching away at the delicious treats that are available.

Other festivals to look out for:

  • Carnival
  • Easter festival
  • Love parade
  • Wurstmarkt wine festival
  • Schützenfest in Hanover
  • Rock am Ring
  • Wagner Festival

Apart from going to festivals there’s a lot to do, and a lot more places to visit.

The Neuschwanstein Castle is a masterpiece. Tours are offered in English and thus you have the opportunity to walking within the spectacular walls of such a historical building and learning all about its past.

Europa-Park, the biggest most brilliant amusement park in the German speaking world is great for family outings. With lots of hotels to relax in overnight after all the adrenaline you had pumping on all those rides, this should be one thing on your must do list regardless of how far away you may live.

Tropical Island offers an outer-worldly experience. It’s an indoor tropical island that makes you instantaneously forget that you’re in Germany, even in the winter. Equipped with swimming pools, the whitest of sand, water slides, shops, restaurants, gyms, live entertainment and just about everything you need, Tropical Island will not cease to amaze you.

Germany is a gorgeous country and regardless of your reason for coming here, whether its work related, or just on vacation, it’s worth planning properly and ensuring that you get to take as much in as possible.
