Finding Domestic Help in Germany

Finding Domestic Help in Germany

There are many reasons one may opt for getting someone to help with chores in the household. Perhaps you have a lot of children, or just had a baby and can’t seem to find the time in the day to empty the dishwasher or tidy up the pantry. Perhaps you work too much and there just aren’t enough hours in the day for you to be able to put your feet up a little and just relax. Hiring a company or an individual to help with domestic tasks is a great way to reduce some of the work you’ll have to do around the house.

·         What can I expect?

Things may be a bit different from how they are at home. The duties included in domestic work usually include the regular household chores (vacuuming, dusting, mopping, cleaning kitchen and bathroom surfaces) excluding things like laundry, ironing, and window cleaning. These things are usually taken on by other companies or individuals. You can, however, speak to the people who apply for the job and let them know what services you require and perhaps come to an agreement where you can have all these things done without having too many different people in and out of your home.

·         How much does it cost?

Prices vary depending on where you are located, how big your home is and the services you require. Payment may be as low as 6 euros per hour and as high as 25 euros per hour.

·         Where do I find domestic help?

For finding domestic help the newspaper may be your best bet. Check the jobs section for people or companies offering the kind of service you require, give them a call, and set up an interview. You can also post an ad in the newspaper and wait for the calls to come rolling in. The internet is another great option. Sites like http://kleinanzeigen.ebay.de/anzeigen/ are very popular for those offering cleaning services. If a telephone number is left you can give a call and arrange a meeting, if not, feel free to write an email. Perhaps you have friends in the area who can recommend someone that they have used to help them in the household. This is a great option, as you’ll already have an idea of what this person is like and know what to expect from them.

·         What other household services are available?

-          Window Cleaning

-          Carpet Cleaning

-          Mattress Clean

-          Ironing

-          Cooking (May be a bit more on the expensive side)

-          Grocery shopping

Sometimes even the simplest tasks are too much for one person to take on, especially when that persons days are packed with numerous other large and small tasks. It's okay to request help when you need it. After all, we are human, and can only manage so much and no more.
